such lovely new stuff (my loss)
i like your dark works but those water colors are a joy to watch...
beautiful job on the portrait...anything you can't paint?

Thanks Rob, well portraits actually, dont look too closely, the crazy brushwork is a veneer that covers a raft of basic inadequacies, give me a building any day, nice simple planes, simple colours, people are unbelievably complex, and vary in colour all over their faces.

Simon, this portrait is really beautifully done and captures that light that young skin absorbs. She is a lovely girl but it is your rendition that makes it an absolutely wonderful painting.

Hi Sheila
thanks, I can sort of manage frothy pretty, I am after gravitas, well.. to burrow under the surface of reality, and get across those timeless moments like Hopper, de chirico and that Sheila Vaughn does.

Beautiful portrait - she is lovely. I enjoyed your watercolours as well. Really nice blog - I'll keep following.

Hi Stephen and Tina, really appreciate the support, its about 10 years since I did my last portrait, I was bored with painting so my wife "commissioned" this portrait, still haven’t been paid though

Hi Rahina
Well the brushstrokes, most of what you can see is an overpainting of a straightforward painting with a brush loaded with colour, the reasoning being to paint over everything that looks awkward with a slightly brighter colour.

you make it sound so easy! thanks for that. r.
