Something beyond the Mini Roundabout.

Have changed the crop of this painting as I think it looked too symmetrical, too conventional and picturesque, prefer the off balance feel of this.

The Romance of Travel

Ok title is semi ironic, but then I think there is a romance even in motorways.

Sunset town

This was a real pain to reproduce, tried scanning it, lots of reflections, tried photography ,low lights 3 seconds exposure, still reflections, maybe cos the whole tone is quite dark

Toy Landscape

Pass this view regularly in the car, it has the air of artificiality that you would find in a kids improbable arrangements of toys: the barn is on a nice little hill (why?), the track curves picturesquely, but pointlessly, oh and the sun makes it look improbably ideal.

Tree shadow

Its amazing what you notice once the image is scanned and appears on the screen. This again has been cropped, a lot, and flipped horizontally. Don't know why flipping it improves it, maybe because we read left to right, would other cultures judge the flip differently? Maybe I shouldn't try to explain what I was trying to do, it reduces it all to a recipe, its the taste I want to convey.
Well its a sort of bored Sunday afternoon thing, living next to a road where, nothing ever happens and you are prepared to look for meaning in anything, even a car that drives past and the sound fades slowly to nothing. Sounds really boring put like that, but I think there is a kind of intensity to extreme non events.................time for my medication.

Gower Stones

A row of random stones in early evening, a bit of exposed soil, and a building lurking in the background.

Beach corner

Ok this is awfully similar to "Aberystwyth" painting below, but I like this sort of thing.

Slipway

This started off as a spatial thing, then became a textural thing, then with cropping has become a spatial and textural thing. The textures dont read very well at small scale.

Grey wall.

This painting is far too wholesome to be enjoyed, its the equivalent of organic brown rice, mixed with sawdust for extra roughage.
Oil on card 10 by 6 inches.

Moon valley

Sort of the view from my bedroom, but again this has been cropped and messed around with after the paint has dried. One day I hope to establish compositions before I start painting.

Aberystwyth Prom.

Low sun, warm light, dark shadows, yes its a Hopper but on a very bad day, Aberystwyth is a small holiday/university town on the far edge of wales. This Hopperesque portrayal is kind of really apt as Aberystwyth is the setting for a series of fabulous 1950s style gangster/detective novels by Malcolm Pryce "Framed in the structure of a hardboiled private detective crime novel, with Aberystwyth evocatively replacing Raymond Chandler’s Los Angeles". Titles include "Aberystwyth Mon Amor", "The unbearable lightness of being in Aberystwyth", Last Tango in Aberystwyth" you get the idea.

Carys, Oil on Card A3.

Carys my luvly daughter, shes probably going to be a better painter than me. And a better speller.

Aberystwyth Pier Starlings roosting.Oil A4.

I Have cropped this one again, its more about the fizzy texture the flock against the silky soft waves, its more as intended originally. Might paint this again, more flock required.

Whicker Chair Watercolur A3

Dinefwr Castle, Watercolour, A3 size.

Historic Welsh castle, taken over by the Normans, then the Welsh a few times, home of the Lord Rhys, founder of the first Eisteddfod (Cultural competition), its a couple of miles from my house.
